The 3rd hole underwent a complete redesign in 2005. Once a benign, uphill par-3, the 3rd is now a formidable test, stretching to a length of 215 yards from the Cardinal tees. The slightly downhill tee shot must negotiate the San Francisquito Creek to the front and left of the green. There is one large bunker that protects the green front left, and a large oak tree that will wreak havoc with any wayward shots to the right.
Once you've successfully reached the putting surface, you'll surely be faced with a long, challenging putt, as the expansive green features both subtle and severe undulations. Three putts are not uncommon at the third, so keep your focus with the flatstick.
