Finding the right golf instructor is one of the most important steps to improving your game. At Stanford University Golf Course, our PGA Professionals are certified to teach every level of golfer, from beginners to scratch players. Both private and group lessons are offered, and sessions can last from 30 to 60 minutes. All lessons are held in a reserved, grass section of the Stanford University Driving Range, with 9-hole playing lessons offered on the spectacular Stanford University Golf Course.

Teaching Staff
Don Chelemedos, PGA Class A Professional, is the General Manager and Head Golf Professional at the Stanford Golf Course. Before joining the staff at Stanford in 1995, Don held the same positions at Colorado courses Eagle Country Club, Applewood Country Club, and Mira Vista Golf Course. He has also spent time in management at Tilden Park G.C. in Berkeley, and was the developer and owner of the Lakemont Golf Center in Westminster, Colorado. Bammer Flippo is the Assistant General Manager & Assistant Head Professional at the Stanford Golf Course. He has been a member of the Stanford staff since 1997. Prior to Stanford he was a golf professional in Texas and New Jersey. Bammer is the Director of tournaments for the Stanford Golf Course, and additionally he helps operate the Stanford Junior Golf Academy each summer.

Josh Zander is a Class A PGA Teaching Professional. He played for the Stanford Golf Team and graduated as an Academic All American in 1990. He is a member of the Golf Digest Pro Panel and is also a contributing editor for Junior Golf Magazine. Before turning his attention to teaching in 1994, Josh was a touring professional on the Asian, South American, and Golden State tours. During his playing career, he qualified and played in the 1992 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. Most recently, he was named one of California's Top 50 Instructors by Golf Digest. Visit ZanderGolf.com Wendy Ebster is an LPGA Class A Teaching Professional. A graduate of San Diego State University, she finished up her college career as W.A.C. Champion and Scholar Athlete in 1991. Before beginning her professional career, she topped the nation's charts as an amateur; California State Champion in 1993, played in both the 1988 & 1994 U.S. Open Championships, and U.S. Curtis Cup Team member in 1994. Before joining the Stanford Golf Course staff in 2000, Wendy spent the previous four years as an instructor at Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club.

Herman McKee, PGA Professional, is an Assistant Golf Professional at Stanford Golf Course. His tenure with the Course is the longest of any member on the teaching staff, having come to Stanford in 1983. In addition to his duties at the Course, Herman also helps manage and serves as an instructor at the Stanford Junior Golf Academy. Phil Marrone, PGA Class A Professional, has served on the staff at Stanford Golf Course since 1984. Phil has also worked at Hillcrest Country Club and Crane Creek Country Club, both of Boise, Idaho. In addition, he has held the head coaching position at Menlo College for seven years. A veteran of over 10,000 lessons, Phil's speciality is short game instruction. Visit PhilMarroneGolf.com.

Russ Vander Sluis, PGA Professional, served as an Assistant Golf Professional at Stanford Golf Course from 1991 to 1994 before traveling to Tokyo, Japan to compete in several pro tournaments. There he founded the Vander Sluis Golf Academy, where he taught for six years, held golf clinics throughout Japan, and learned to teach golf in Japanese. He re-joined Stanford teaching staff in the Spring of 2001.

Scheduling a Lesson Lessons with our professionals are typically scheduled for weekday afternoons, Tuesday through Friday, but weekend lessons and other times are available by special arrangement. **Lesson series' and group lessons are available at discounted rates. Check with each individual instructor for availability and prices.

**9-hole playing lessons are 1 1/2 times the hourly rate, not including applicable green fees.
