Course Rules and Regulations Overview The Stanford Golf Course is a University-owned facility under the direction and supervision of the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation. Playing privileges are available to students, faculty/staff, and alumni with current identification cards as defined in the University Guide. Students with current quarter student body cards (and their spouses) may play at student green fees or on a student scrip card at the next available starting time weekdays and after 11 a.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Faculty/staff with current indentification cards for golf privileges as defined in the University Guide (and their spouses) may play at reduced faculty/staff green fees at the next available starting time weekdays and after 11 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. The golf course is closed on Mondays to regular play except on University holidays. Back to top Faculty/Staff Privileges Stanford University faculty and staff with University ID cards may use the course upon purchase of an annual or semi-annual membership or upon payment of green fees. Faculty/staff with annual and semi-annual playing cards are considered members of the Stanford Golf Course and may join the Stanford Golf Club or either Women's Group on payment of the Club dues. Associate member privileges for the spouse and minor children are available for a fee. Their guests pay current green fees. Emeriti faculty and regular retired staff have the same privileges as regular faculty/staff. A visiting scholar with the proper ID may play upon payment of the current guest accompanied green fee on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays after 11 a.m. Golfing privileges at Stanford Golf Course are continued for the surviving spouse of a deceased University employee if the surviving spouse was using such golfing privileges at the time of the decedent's death, and provided that the surviving spouse shall pay the regular annual faculty/staff rate for such golfing privileges. Volunteer medical staff do not have privileges on the golf course. Back to top Student Privileges Only currently registered Stanford undergraduate and graduate students may use the golf course upon purchase of scrip cards or payment of student green fees and presentation of their current quarter student body card along with positive identification. Currently registered students and spouses may play anytime weekdays except the first two hours of Wednesday. They may play after 11 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays at the student rate. Dependent children of students must play after 12:30 p.m. at the student rate and with their parents. Back to top Alumni Privileges Alumni who are members of the Stanford Alumni Association may reserve starting times either in person or by phone three days in advance, 6 days a week beginning at 6:30 a.m. Back to top Guest Privileges Unaccompanied guests are not permitted to play the course. Each accompanied guest is limited to two rounds per month. Discount Green Fee Cards can be purchased at the golf course pro shop by the active membership. These cards entitle the member to six guest rounds that can be used any day or for particular invitational tournaments. The card is not transferable and must be used within the calendar year that it was purchased. Back to top Pro Shop Pro Shop personnel are responsible to the General Manager/Head Golf Professional in carrying out the rules and regulations established by the Department of Athletics. They act as starters and as salesmen for Pro Shop merchandise, and offer lessons at the Stanford Driving Range. The Pro Shop is open from dawn to dusk Tuesdays through Sundays and from 6:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Mondays. The Shop is closed at 1:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, and all day Christmas Day. When the Stanford-California football game is played at Stanford, the Pro Shop closes at 12:00 noon on that Saturday. Back to top Starting Times Players must register themselves and guests by name in the Pro Shop before starting play, and players will be started by the Pro Shop Starters in order of sign-up. Club members and non-resident members may reserve starting times by telephone or in person at 6:15 a.m. seven days in advance, 6 days a week. Non-members (alumni, students, faculty/staff, visiting scholars) may reserve starting times in person, or over the phone at 6:30 a.m., three days in advance of the day of play. Any tee-times not booked by 3:00 p.m. the day before play will be open to all others allowed to play on the course. The course offers a 9-hole and twilight green fee rate. The 9-hole rate will be available for the back 9 only before any 18-hole players make the turn. The twilight rate will be available off the first tee three hours before sunset. Back to top Holidays The following holidays are observed for the golf course: New Year's Day, Labor Day, Washington's Birthday, Thanksgiving Day, Memorial Day, Christmas Day (Golf Course closed), July 4th, Martin Luther King Day and other University holidays. Back to top Driving Range The Driving Range is for the use of Club members, Stanford students, faculty/staff, and members of the Stanford Community. It is open daily. Current hours are posted at the Range. They typically are 8:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays and 7:00 a.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. They end one hour before dark in the summer. Winter hours are open at 7:00 a.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, 8:30 a.m. weekdays. Back to top General Rules Practicing is prohibited on the golf course. It is allowed only in the designated area next to the 18th fairway and behind the 4th fairway. All play must start at the first tee unless approved by the Pro Shop staff. All players must sign up at the Pro Shop and obtain a player's ticket before teeing off. Players are required to REPLACE DIVOTS, RAKE SAND TRAPS, REPAIR BALL MARKS ON GREENS and help maintain the condition of the course. It is the players' responsibility to see that such repairs are made. All players must respect signs directing foot and cart traffic on the course. Privately owned powered single-bag carts are permitted on the course provided rules and marked areas are observed. No fivesomes are permitted on this course. Violators will have their playing privileges suspended. A single player has no standing and should give way to a group of players. Any group playing a full round is entitled to pass a player playing a shorter round. If a group fails to keep its place on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the players in front, it must allow the group following to pass. The play on the golf course shall be governed by the rules of the United States Golf Association, except as modified by local rules which are posted in the Club House. The Staff welcomes suggestions. Complaints should be made in writing over the complaintant's signature and addressed to the Golf Course Manager, or via e-mail to feedback@stanfordgolfcourse.com. In order to avoid possible accidents, the speed of automobiles on the road approaching and around the Club House is limited to 10 mph. Automobiles must be parked only in the designated parking spaces. Unauthorized persons playing the course will be asked to leave immediately. The Department and the University are not responsible for the personal property of golfers. Clubs and other personal property should not be left unattended in the parking lot, around the Club House, or on the course. Children are not permitted in the Club House unless accompanied and supervised by their parents. Dogs are not allowed in the Club House or on the course.
