Most recently Somerset Hills Country Club, NJ and prior to that serving as the Head Golf Professional at Sand Valley, WI. Named the 2016 WPGA Assistant Golf Professional of the Year. Shadowed instruction of several top teachers including, Laird Small, Kevin Weeks, Jason Carbone, Dean Reinmuth to name a few.

Jim was originally hired in 1993 to teach the Stanford P.E golf classes. In May 2011, Jim joined the Stanford golf operations team as an assistant golf professional. Jim has over 20 years of experience in the golf industry, teaching golf to students of all playing abilities. Jim is a graduate of UCLA.

Herman’s tenure with the Course is the longest of any member on the teaching staff, having come to Stanford in 1983. In addition to his duties at the Course, Herman also helps manage and serves as an instructor at the Stanford Junior Golf Academy.

Russ Vander Sluis has been teaching at Stanford Golf Course since 2001. Russ competed on the Professional tour in Japan starting in 1994 and then founded the Vander Sluis Golf Academy in Toyko where he taught for six years and held golf clinics throughout Japan and Asia. Russ also has a four-year teaching degree from Calvin University in Michigan.

Phil Marrone has worked and taught golf at Stanford since 1984. He is a Lifetime PGA member and has given tens of thousands of golf lessons as well as having coached at the high school, college, and professional levels. He has been the recipient of many prestigious coaching awards over the years.
His teaching combines modern science and old-school artistry, logic and creativity… and laughter. It’s supposed to be fun, right?
